IN OTHER WORDS, THE GOOD STUFF!

Racing in the months of September and October has been a lot of fun. Entries have been down with Paul and his sons racing gokarts, Mark in school and the temporary lost of GreenBelt raceway, but the guys that show up have been having extended bench racing and thrashing sessions to tuneup for the next championship. T-Jet races at Zane’s has been hard fought in getting ready for the Dan Loeffler Memorial. The Memorial looks to be a good event with plaques to the top 4 and several prizes to be raffled off. All entry fees will go to Dan’s son’s education fund and help the family in a small way. Anything we can do for our ol racing buddy’s family is a worthwhile cause.

The Oct 3rd SuperStock race at Paul’s was another shorttrack bumping and grinding deal. Several showed up prepared with NASCAR bodies on their chassis and crashes were some of the best we’ve seen. Take note of the Dec 5th “Bristol Nite” race at Paul’s. Much like the F1/CART race that we did at Paul’s in Sept maybe we can get some of the racers show up with NASCAR bodies on their cars. On the subject of bodies be sure to get your ballot in for the voting of body styles for the 1998 SuperStock Championship. The Lead Sleds, Vintage Trans-Am and NASTRUCKs are doing quite well in the voting! Remember, if you don’t vote your voice won’t be heard when it comes time to announce the decision.

The talk of the race was Zane’s awesome qualifying run of 25.8 for a new track record. Over a lap better than the previous record! His LifeLike was hooked up like no other car seen and only a body mounting problem stopped him from domainating the race. As is was Greg’s Dale Jarrett Ford T-Bird (short track setup) grabbed the lead flag to flag over a very competitive field. Several racers had very fast cars. Mike, Eric, Ken and James were particulary fast giving the old veterans a rough time. Paul was just slighty off the rapid pace but then when you run a car which looks like it came right out of the package except for body and tires you can expect that against this tough field.

See Ya at the Races!
