Well everyone is catching their breath after a fantastic series. Time to kick back, have some fun and do some offbeat, interesting races. The biggies for the fall will be the endurance races and the Dan Loeffler Memorial T-Jet Race. Things are looking good for the upcoming fall races and the 1998 SuperStock championship. Please remember to fill out your ballots and get your top 3 choices of body style for the championship in. Surprising, the Lead Sleds, Nastrucks, and Vintage TransAm are doing well in the point totals. It’s like the elections, if you don’t vote you really can’t complain.
Lots of buzz going on in the T-Jet ranks with plenty of orders going out to get ready for the big Memorial race. I’ve gotten some cool (and expensive) stuff from Road Race Replicas and Tom Heister. Zane did a cool number in printing out the RRR catalog in color and I fought hard not to open up the wallet a lot more for some skinny tire stuff. I’ve ordered some parts from Tom Heister and he has promised me to send his 4 page catalog to me. He has told me that his group in Pennsylvania races T-Jets quite frequently. They are not collectors but to save their original T-Jet bodies one of his members makes molded plastic bodies that fit on the T-Jet chassis. This body features a molded windshield ala LifeLike and I can’t wait to find out what ones they are racing. I got this idea of T-Jet dirt track cars, sprinters, late models or modifieds on an oval would be a lot of fun.
One piece of bad news is that Marty has decided to take a break from racing HO cars. Please refer to the new schedule to reflect this. We’ll miss that long track but Marty wants to take some time off and build static models. Hopefully he’ll recharge the batteries and be ready to give the fast guys fits in the 1998 championship. I know I speak for the group when I say thanks for having us over to his house and letting us race there!
Dave Maves is kindly putting the finishing touches on the T-Jet rules. They will be in effect for the Dan Loeffler Memorial race. Please call Dave at xxx-xxxx or Greg at xxx-xxxx with any questions you may have. There will be technical inspection and I think the only item of discussion is running sized front tires which has been approved. Looking forward to a good turnout for this race. Remember that the all the entry fees go to Dan’s son for his education fund. The Dec 5th race at Paul’s for SuperStock could be regarded as NASCAR race on the same theme as the last time when we did the F1/Indy style bodies. You don’t have to do this but in the light of the “Bristol” nature (short track racing with lots of bumping and grinding) it should be fun. So drag out your favorite NASCAR body, paint it up in the colors of your favorite team and bang your buddy out of your way!
One of the ideas that has been batted about for some time is the idea of a membership fee for the group. This is following the deal SCHOR has. The membership fee entitles you to a t-shirt, a monthly newsletter and a cut on the entry fees for our races. I would like to see some racers get together and see if this can be carried out. Setup the deal for the shirts, their layout, amount of membership fee and the stamps for the mailings. I will take care of the newsletter and it’s mailing. Give it some thought and let’s see if we can pull this off.
See Ya at the Races!
