IN OTHER WORDS, THE GOOD STUFF!

Paul Back to Winning Ways!
MRT’s Zane still points leader!

There were several moments at the 2nd WSC/GTP AHORA SuperStock championship race when the winner may have been decided. One was during practice when Greg went to unhook Zane’s controller on yellow lane. Zane was working on his car and Greg just wanted to try his car out on yellow. As he reached for the clips he noticed that all the wires on Zane’s controller were white. The only indicators of color are the clip boots. For a moment he wondered if Zane had problems with hooking up in a hurry with his eyesight.. Gave it a moments thought and started practicing. That would prove later to be prophetic.

2nd was when Paul qualified 3rd with a time only .015 seconds behind Top Qualifier Mark who grabbed the pole with a 4.196, once again coming very close to the track record. But Paul’s qualifying minute saw him crashed very little. The car was smooth, fast and although he was concerned about arriving late and getting a lot less practice than others, you could sense a return to the way things have been going the last few years. That Paul looked like a favorite for the win.

With a good turnout of 11 there were 3 semis to run. Winner advanced to the main and as Paul said it was going to be cruel. Zane won the A with a 93.03, Mark the B at 93.04, and Paul set the tone winning the C with a quick 96.57! Last chance saw Greg get the lead only to see his teamate Marty easily move by to get the final slot in the main with a fast 96.29. At least Right Stuff had someone in the main! Looked like the track was getting faster for some.

The 2nd main event in the series lined up with Paul on the pole. But at the start Zane grabbed the lead with a 25 to Paul and Marty’s 24 and a “sucking up the dust” Mark. Team MRT’s Zane, who lately has been driving at a very high level, extended that lead in the 2nd segment with a fast 26 on red. Paul stayed with him and Marty although consistent at 24s was falling behind. Mark was having lots of problems and was trying to figure out like some where his handling had gone. The 3rd segment saw Paul move into a tie with Zane both at 75 with Marty at 71. The power came on for the crucial 4th segment and that’s when Zane controller hookup fooled him on blue. With Paul on red he had a shot at moving back into the lead but he lost several valuable seconds hooking back up. Even so he put on a valiant effort just falling short by a lap still cutting a good 24. But Paul even he had some traffic problems brought it home with a 100.39 to Zane’s 99.33. Marty ran into some problems on green ending up 3rd with 93.66 with Mark rounding out the field with 83.59. Great race with a lots of fun. Remember that only the best 6 results count so essentially the series is starting over again for some. But the points are tight and anything can happen especially at Paul’s tight road course. Hope to see you there!
