The warmup held at Paul’s April 25th showed that the wins are up for grabs. David has been running very well with his Ferrari 512S making the main numerous times and winning more than his share. Some would say he is a darkhorse in the field but he has a lot of momentum going right now. Team Banta is very strong for the championship but the question hanging over them is how they will handle the BuckTrax. Paul builds the finest handling chassis. MRT with Mark, Zane and some showings of Dan could upset Team Banta. Mark is tough everywhere he runs. Zane could be a real threat if he would just imagine he is in California. Right Stuff with Greg, Ken, Dave and Marty will be in there. Ken spent several hours at Paul’s after the race dialing his Tyco in with a lot assistance from Paul. The car at the end of the evening (1am ish) was very fast with excellent handling. Hopefully we will see a lot of Mike, Rich and some new faces there too!
Most other series have you buy tickets for the prize raffle at the end. I personally have a problem with that when I see the same person who bought $$$$ worth of tickets go up for the 15th time. So our series will be a bit different. Everyone who is present at the series finale and has raced will get some prizes. The big stuff like sets and cars will be raffled off. But you don’t have to buy tickets for that. Each race you enter you will receive 2 tickets. The raffle will only use those tickets. The more times you enter the better your chances are! So enter all 8 and walk away with the new LifeLike set or maybe some of the other good stuff headed our way. Speaking of that I have already received stuff from LifeLike, REH, with Parma, SlotTech, Legends, Wizzard and Scale Auto on the way. With John Cukras help hopefully I’ll get stuff from Tyco and Tomy. Keep your fingers crossed!
Marty is working with Bill Corrine of the former “Deals on Wheels” on getting plaques for the top finishers in each main of the series. This will drain the coffers a little more but it will be worth it. Maybe we can get the New Mexico group to drop on down for a race or two. That means we’d have to make a run up there but it is always great to meet new people who race HO cars!
The month of April was very exciting. The racing here was really great and prepared several of the gang for the SCHOR SpringNationals held in Westminster, California. As you have heard aready several of the AHORA gang did very well. At one point race organizer, John “The Jet” Cukras cmmented on how the Arizona group had come to California to show them how to race! We made mains in Tomy Am SuperStock, R.O., Mod 96 and Pro Tyco SuperStock and took home some wood. Zane once again placed very high in the Am SuperStock with a very good chance at winning till he ran into body problems. Even then he was running so well he still got 2nd! Marty finished 5th in that race after running for quite awhile in 2nd with a brief taste of the lead. As usual the racing in Calif was excellent and the guys there are the greatest. I can’t recommend enough going to the SCHOR SpringNationals in 98!
Well I hope you have a good time at our races. Remember that HO slotcar racing can be fun and fast. Good luck in the series and let me know if there is anythomg we can do to make the racing more enjoyable for you.
