Things have settled down some with a good showing at the Feb 21st race at Zane’s. Long time and fast AZ HO racer Mark McVittie showed up and drove a so-so car into the main. Paul checked out for the win as he has been doing with way too much frequency lately. Come on guys! Hold him down and make him drink those beers! I know after a few I think I’m driving great!
The annual California trek to the SCHOR SpringNationals is coming up on April 18th and 19th. Already plans are in the works and it is always great to see the guys there. Also the racing is great, both the stuff at the bench and on the track. We will be back on the BuckTrax (4x16) and the ORAD track which has a LONG straight. It will be held at Pete Santini’s house and looks like it is going to be one you won’t want to miss. An interesting thing about SCHOR is that they race a separate Tyco and Tomy SuperStock race so we will be able to drag our fast ceramic Tycos out for this one. You’re allowed to run reverse traction magnets. Also they have started a class for just Tomys which is basically a SuperStock with any armature that is higher than 3 ohms. This allows custon winds, worked stock or green arms.
After the SCHOR race we will begin our 8 race, best 6 count, series. I would like to have a meeting of all interested racers on what the series should be. We should organize a meeting at someone’s house where we talk and trash a little on cars, share some drink and food and figure how we what to go about the series. Some ideas have been running our SuperStocks or a hard plastic body Indy/F1 with stock tires. Give it some thought and let us know whether at the races or the meeting. If we do run the SuperStocks I would like to see a body type determined such as GTP, Nascar, TransAm, Vintage, etc.
Another idea that is making the rounds is to have a race date, say the 4th Friday in the schedule and hold a Tomy Super G+ SuperStock race. Several racers have expressed the idea of running a faster class so we need to discuss this. We’ll also talk about where we what to hold this. There has also been brought an idea of running races on Saturday in the late afternoon and evening for a more relaxed atomosphere. I think everything is going great. There are several new tracks in idea/construction phase and seems that everyone is having a great time. Let’s keep Arizona HO racing fun and fast. The following is the prelimary schedule:
